Gogo The Dino at Lowes Build and Grow

Jan 28, 2012 - Today is a special day (yes its a Lowes Build and Grow Day as well) but its also my parent's wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary Mommy and Daddy. Now that its out of the way, lets get back to my Build and Grow. Today is the 2nd BAG day for 2012 and we are building a dinosaur. Since my parents had already registered my name, it was easy for me to get my kit.

Today's kit was a lot of fun because it was easy to build and there were a lot of stickers that we had to stick. I had a choice between making a real dinosaur or a cartoon dino. I preferred to make a cartoon dino because he is less scary. I am not scared but there were smaller kids so that's why.

The cartoon dino had a lot of green and black spots around him and it took us a while to stick those stickers. I gave my dino the name "Gogo the Dino" and also told my dad that he had chicken pox. When we came out, we found that our car had a flat tire. The AAA guy came and fixed it.

In the evening, we had a party at my friend Riya's house where I met my preschool friends Manav, Neerali and Siddharth too. We cut a cake to celebrate my parent's anniversary. It was a fun day.

The Find the Landmark Game

The Find the Landmark Game

Jan 6, 2012 - Today I was a bit bored and so I decided to come up with a new game called "Find the Landmark". I think I was inspired by my most favorite show "The Amazing Race". Th game is quite simple really. You take two sheets of paper. On one paper, you need to write the name of a city and on the other paper you need to write the name of a famous landmark in that city. You create as many sets of these city and landmarks as you want. I created a few of them.

  1. Agra - Taj Mahal
  2. Dallas - Dallas Zoo
  3. Auckland - Sky Tower
  4. Hyderabad - Buddha Statue
  5. New York - Times Square
  6. Tokyo - Mishta Square (a friend told me about this but I am not sure)
Once you create these sets, you find spots in your house where you hide these papers along with a pencil. Have your friends and family search for these papers. Once they find it, they need to sign their name so we know who has found them.

My first players were my parents and they had a lot of fun playing this game. They were able to find the landmarks. I will play this again soon with new landmarks.

Celebrating the New Year with Phineas and Ferb

Jan 1, 2012 - First, I would like to wish all my friends and family a wonderful 2012. Its always nice to start the year with something exciting and my parents had a wonderful surprise for me. They had booked tickets to the Phineas and Ferb Live tour which happened to be passing through Dallas this weekend. We woke up a bit late (partying and all that stuff you know), had a nice good breakfast and was ready for the show. My mother had my "Phineas and Ferb" t-shirt ready to go as well. We had to drive to the city of Garland where the show was going to be held. There must have been 1000-1500 people at the show today.  The show started on time and it had all the characters from the show including Phineas and Ferb (of course), Candace, Jeremy, Isabella, Stacy, Buford and Beljeet. Of course Perry and Dr Doofablahblah (I will call him Dr D) were there as well.

The show was for about 90 minutes and was broken into 2 acts. Its mostly a musical act and they play a lot of the popular Phineas and Ferb songs such as Backyard Beach, Robot Riot, Everything's better with Perry and many other songs. They also had a cool Bollywood song too (see the video below). If you like Phineas and Ferb and their songs then you will love this show. I had a great time and it was a great way to kick off the new year.

Christmas Day 2011

Christmas Day 2011

Dec 25th, 2011 - The most exciting day of the year (coming in just a bit ahead of my birthday) is Christmas Day of course. I had called Santa a few days ago and left him a message with the things that I wanted and I was really hoping he would deliver. Of course that depended on nice or naughty I had been this year. The truth is that I think I was mostly nice but I did have a few bad days along the way. I was hoping he would give me some leeway. After all, I am only 5 years old.

We slept early on Christmas Eve to give Santa enough time to stop and drop the gifts. I had left him a glass of Milk and some cookies under the Christmas tree. I left some carrots for the reindeer too. I woke up, brushed my teeth (rather reluctantly) and ran to the Christmas tree to see if Santa had come............and HE DID!!!. I tore open all the gifts in a matter of minutes. He got me everything I wanted. I got the Crayon Maker, a Paul Frank clock, Dinosaur train toys, books and puzzles. It was super exciting.

I wish it could be Christmas everyday!!! I hope you all got what you wanted for Christmas.

My first stage performance - Sleeping Beauty

Dec 12th, 2011 - This year, I had enrolled in the Drama Club at school. This is the first year that they had opened it up to Kindergartners. Ever since school started back in August, we would practice for this play. There were 3 other Kindergartners with me in the play and we were given the role of a griffin. I had practiced my one line, which I had to say out LOUD "Whatever!, they are no match for the griffins.". Our play was at the school on a Monday evening. My parents dropped my off about an hour before the show. Our drama teachers made me wear my mask.

The show started promptly at 7 PM. There must have been about 100 people in the audience. My scene was in Act 2. When time came for us, we ran on the stage, scared everyone and I said my line. I think everyone could hear me. When the show was over, we all came on the stage and took a bow.

It was a great experience for me to do this play.

Retiring my Cool Shirts

Retiring my Cool Shirts

Sep 05, 2011  -  One of the cool things about being a 5-year old is that you get new clothes every season. The downside is that you outgrow some of your favorite shirts and have to give them away. Summer is almost over for us and it will start to get a bit cold in the next few weeks. Given that it was the long Labor Day weekend and we did not go out anywhere, my parents decided to visit my wardrobe and clean out some stuff that was getting old or starting to get small. I also had to make some space for the new clothes my parents bought a couple of weeks ago.

My parents put a lot of my clothes in a box to give away to charity but they held onto 5 of the shirts that they liked. You can see from what they picked that my Dad likes rock music and my mom picked one for her "Her Lucky Charm" and the other two they picked together.

It was a fun time going through all my clothes. I have new clothes for school and the Fall and the summer clothes that are in good shape go to charity.

Presidents vs Aliens iPad Game

Presidents vs Aliens iPad Game

Sep 01, 2011  - In June this year, I had some family visit us and we went to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas where they have a museum in honor of President John F Kennedy. I did not know much about our presidents except for those who were on the bills. My parents had also got me a Melissa and Doug Presidents puzzle so I developed an interest in the US presidents. Since then I have brought books from the Library and read about the US presidents and their families.

The iPad has many apps that have information about the US Presidents and so I was able to learn about each president. I know things such as the order of the presidents, when they were in office, when they were born and other interesting facts about them. Recently my Dad download a gamed called Presidents vs Aliens where I answer questions about Presidents. If I get the answer, then I get to shoot some aliens. Once I see all the aliens I earn a President and I do this till I get all the 44 Presidents.

Once I have collected all of them, I can play a couple of more games including arranging the presidents in order. I loved this game and completed it this week.

Lowes Build and Grow - Back to School Locker

Aug 13th, 2011  - The Back-to-School spirit still lives on. I just completed my first week at school and this weekend Lowes had the 2nd project on the Back-to-School theme. We had to build a school locker. My mom had registered me so it was easy to get the kit. This project was quite simple compared to some of the ones I had done before especially the one from last week. We had to nail in 5 sides of the locker and finally nail in the front door. The locker also had a little shelf. Then came the fun part of putting in all the stickers. I put in stickers all over the locker (lots of sports stickers) on the sides. I was also able put my name on the locker too.

It took us only 15 minutes today and once I was done, I took my certificate and my patch and we came home.

I am looking forward to the next two Build and Grow sessions, we will be building a Police Car and a Fire Truck.

First Day at Kindergarten

Aug 22nd, 2011  - The day finally arrived. My first day in Kindergarten at Mockingbird Elementary. Since the school starts early, my parents woke me up at around 6:30. I followed my usual routine of having my milk and breakfast, took a shower and got ready to go to school. Since it was my first day, I called my grandparents in India for their blessings.

Since it was my first day today, both my parents came to drop me off at school. They also allowed the parents to drop us to the classroom. As soon as I walked in, the teacher asked me to wear my name tag. I then kept my bag in the cubby and my lunch box outside and went around the class. I found my chair and asked my parents to leave.

I made a lot of new friends today, Amanda, Connor, Blake, Nico, Anu, Aromi, Madeline, Srikar, Vivek, Tanvi, Joshua and Radhika. The teacher made me draw a picture of something I did over the summer.  We read a book called "Mrs Bindergarten is ready for Kindergarten". The other book we read was "Mama, Don't Go".  I had lunch with Connor and Anu. I get to eat in the cafeteria.

I had a snack in the afternoon with Blake, Connor, Aromi and Amanda. After snack, we played a game called Star Falls on the Smart Board. I got B as a match letters card game. Soon it was time to go home. We waited outside for our parents to come and pick me up.

An exciting 1st day at school.

Kindergarten Begins Tomorrow

Kindergarten Begins Tomorrow

Aug 21st, 2011  - Tomorrow is the day when I embark on a new chapter in my life, Kindergarten. After going to Rockbrook Montessori for the couple of years, I am going to start my Elementary school at the Mockingbird Elementary. Earlier this week, we had "Meet the Teacher" evening where I met my Kindergarten teacher, Mrs Moore. I also got a chance to look at my new class. I have a cubby and a chair with my name on it.

This weekend was very busy shopping for my "off-to-school" essentials. We got a new lunch bag, box, bottle and other things that I would need for my school. My parents also took me to the temple to make sure I have blessings from above. We also shopped for the fall and winter as well.

I also have to get used to a new routine where I have to sleep early and wake up early. My new school times are from 7:50 AM - 3:00 PM. Since it was the summer holidays my parents allowed me to stay up just a bit late but not anymore. I need to be in bed by around 8 now. Most of my friends from Rockbrook will also start school tomorrow. I will miss them a lot and wish them the very best with their new schools. I am sure we will meet over the weekend.

What me worry? No way. New school, new friends, that's exciting for me. I think my parents are going to be a bit emotional, I can sense it. Wonder if there will be any crying tomorrow?

G'night y'all and wish me luck. May the Force be with me!
